We recently did a post about WHY you need a Facebook business page. (If you missed it, you can read it by CLICKING HERE). Now we will show you how to create your own page in six simple steps. It’s not at all complicated, once you have a little direction and a check list.
The 6 Steps
- Create a New Page
- Fill in the Profile
- Set your Profile and Cover Photos
- Customize your Template and Tabs
- Create a Custom URL
- Link to your Website
Let’s break each step down in more detail. If you follow along and do the steps as you read, you’ll have it set up and ready to use today. It really is that simple. Let’s get started.
Create a New Page
When you go to your Facebook account, click on the drop down menu on the top right and click on “Create Page”.
There you will find several options for page type. Select what fits you best, click “Get Started”, and you are ready to move on to entering your profile information.
The important thing to remember when creating your page is to chose a short and relevant name. That is something so foundational to creating a brand, you want to get it right the first time. You don’t want to go back and change it later. Put some time into choosing wisely.
Congratulations! You are now ready to start entering your information on your page.
Fill in the Profile
This is the scary part for some of us. Especially for those who are not much into writing, or speaking about themselves, it can be a challenge.
You want it to clearly and concisely explain who you are, what you do, and why people should follow you. You also want it to consistently reflect your brand image. So, you should put some thought into how you word it.
Don’t get so hung up there that you aren’t moving forward. You can go back and perfect it later. The important thing is to get it done. So, do your best, then move on.
To find where you update your profile information, go to the tabs and select “About”, then “Edit Page Info” at the top right. Simply fill in the appropriate information and save it.
Set your Profile and Cover Photo
You want to be very selective about both of these. They are what people recognize you by on Facebook. They need to be high quality, professional, and of course, relevant. Stay in line with your overall intended image to help develop a strong brand.
In general, you will find it easier to connect with your audience if you display personalized images of you. A person-to-person connection is what sells. That being said it’s not the ONLY way so do what is best for your end game.
Customize your Template and Tabs
To customize your page, go to “Settings” at the top right of your page, then on the menu at the left, choose “Edit Page”. Here you can choose a template for your page, as well as move the tabs to suit your needs. You can even create custom tabs.
This allows you to show the tabs in whatever priority is right for your visitors. For example, if you sell products, you might not even use the events tab, but you likely will be using the shop tab. If what you sell is a service, they have a tab for that too.
Wow! You are over halfway there and the more challenging parts are behind you now! Moving right along…
Create a Custom URL
Facebook will give you a prompt, asking if you would like a custom URL. The answer is a definite YES.
Consistency matters. You want a custom URL that matches your other branding efforts across all social media platforms. You want to make it easy for visitors to remember you.
Link to your Website
We assume you have a website, or at least a landing page, for your business. It’s important to be sure and connect your new business page to it. The goal is to connect with fans on Facebook, then motivate them to check out your site to learn more and hopefully get on your mailing list while they are there. So, you want to make it easy for them to connect with you outside of Facebook.
CONGRATULATIONS! If you went through each step with me just now, you are the proud owner of your very own business page and are ready to work it!
